Went here for their Grand Opening a couple weeks ago, and all their 2008 boards were 20% off! Jumped on a Lib Tech TRS mtx. Buying a board here automatically enrolls you into their membership program which entitles you to free waxes for the life of your board. All the staff that helped me were really knowledgeable and helpful. A definite recommend for anyone looking for a new snowboard.

Wow. This is easily my favorite Los Gatos restaurant, and I've tried quite a few. Went with a sizable group, so I was able to try alot of their offerings.

Started with their Silogi, which has 4 delicious spreads served with flatbread. All spreads were cold and fresh and were all worth trying. The Saganaki was really tasty. It's pan fried Creek cheese, very crispy on the outside, chewy and pungent (in a good way) on the inside. Definitely the most interesting, unique flavor I experienced that night.

Their Pantzaria beet salad was very nice, much better than the other salad I tried, which was the only dish i didn't like. That would be the Marouli, which was very ordinary and unimpressive.

If you're a fan of lamb chops, you'll love their Paithakia. So damn good. Easily the best lamb chops I've ever had.

We were too full to order dessert, but luckily one of the restaurant's owners offered up free Yiaourti, which was excellent. It's tangy yogurt served with honey, nuts, and fresh fruit. I could eat that stuff all day.

All in all, a great looking restaurant with tasty food, good wine list, and friendly service.

Huong Lan Sandwich

For Vietnamese sandwiches, this place is pretty tough to beat. My favorite is the BBQ pork. The chicken is alright. Whichever you get, it is piled on with fresh veggies, which I think is key. The portions of meat and veggies in these sandwiches are much more generous that what you can find at the more popular Lee's.

Decided to try this place one weekday for lunch, and I'm glad I did. Had the lamb souvlaki sandwich, and it was really tasty. I've also had the lamb skewer plate, which was also good, but may be too much food for most.  Subbed out their fries for onion rings for 50 cents more, they were OK. Their baklava is good but not great. My outside table on that sunny day also made my meal more enjoyable.

Shuei-Do Manju Shop

Although I'm not a huge fan of manju, I was quite impressed with Shuei-DO's soft, squishy, fresh manju. Everything about their bean-filled manju is great, except for the excessively sweet bean paste in the center. The paste is literally painfully sweet; it hurt my tongue after the 3rd bite. If they cut down on their sugar, it'd be the perfect snack/dessert.  That's why my favorite manjus are the ones to the far right of the counter. Those are just the mochi without any bean filling. The day I visited, they had strawberry and coconut flavored mochi, and both were great.

Went to Oracle Arena a few weeks ago to cheer on my Chicago Bulls when they came to town to play the Warriors. I had been there several times before, but this was my first time in 3 years. I noticed alot of improvements to the place, most notably the new jumbo-tron and side displays which made the arena much nicer.  The biggest thing still lacking about this place is their terrible food options. I've tried almost everything there, and probably the only thing worth having are their churros.  I suggest you come here having already eaten dinner, so you don't have to settle for subpar food.

I also have to applaud the GSW faithful, the Bulls were up by 14 after 3 quarters, but the Warriors managed a comeback and their fans were pretty damn loud, which only helped their team eventually win in overtime. It was a great game, and I left disappointed with the result, but impressed with the arena's improvements and the GSW fans.

Went to Hodads during my January trip to San Diego because I was craving a burger and a friend took me here. This OB burger joint was surprisingly good. Nothing different or special about the burger, but I'm giving it 4 stars because everything about the burger was solid. Tasty thick patty surrounded with lotsa lettuce, tomato, onion. The cheese was pretty good too. If you're not a big eater, they also offer smaller versions of their hamburger and cheeseburger. Their fries are nice and seasoned. The most original aspect about this place is definitely the walls covered with license plates from all across the nation, as well as some Mexico plates. The staff is pretty friendly too.

Tra Vigne Restaurant

Michael Chiarello is my girlfriend's favorite FoodTV personality, and I've seen his show several times and was looking forward to visiting Tra Vigne, which is his restaurant. The food on his show looks so damn tasty, and the food we had at Tra Vigne did not disappoint our anticipation.

To start, we had the Carpaccio di Manzo, which was ridiculously tasty and was easily the best raw meat dish I've ever had. The thinly-sliced fliet mignon was well-flavored and melted in my mouth. The Fritti Stagionali was just OK, it was basically crispy fried shrimp, calamari, and some veggies with a good mustard sauce.

We had two pasta dishes, the Bucatini with dungeoness crab, and the Pappardelle with braised rabbit ragu. Both were excellent. The homemade pasta noodles were very fresh and al dente in both dishes.

Our secondi was the beef short ribs with polenta. The short ribs are braised for 18 hours, and was the most tender meat I've ever had. This dish was excellent as well, only I was quite full by the time we had this.

Not only was the food spectacular, our server was excellent. Neil was very informative with his recommendations, and he even offered for us to try several wines free of charge before ordering a glass. To top it off, he gave us a complimentary scoop of passionfruit sorbet for dessert. Ask for Neil if you can, and he'll hook it up.

I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in search of excellent Italian food with a Californian twist. If you like Michael Chiarello's FoodTV show, this is the Napa destination for you.

Lookin' for a place to eat great breakfast after a night of wining and dining in Napa Valley? Go to Boon Fly Cafe and you'll be glad you did. I shared the eggs benedict and the breakfast burrito, and had a coffee and grapefruit juice. Everything was top notch, and my only regret was that I was too full to eat anything else. Other dishes that looked great were the triple stack of pancakes and the salads.

Patxi's Chicago Pizza

Category: Pizza
Neighborhood: Hayes Valley

2 star rating

After dining here over the weekend, I've concluded that Patxi's doesn't measure up to it's Bay Area deep dish pizza competition. We actually came here after hearing that Little Star in Western Addition had a 2-hour wait.

As a native Chicagoan, I was raised with deep dish 'za from Gino's East, so I think I'm a pretty good judge when it comes to deep dish.  Patxi's sauce isn't very tasty, it's too tangy for my taste. Also, there's way too much cheese in their pizza, although the cheese did taste good. I've been to Zachary's in Berkeley many times, and that place makes a much better pie than here. Have yet to try Little Star, but have heard nothing but praise.
